Writer and commentator Dimpee Brar is warning that the West is rewriting the history of 9/11, accusing media and political figures of downplaying the ideology behind the attacks while increasingly portraying Islamophobia and Western actions as the real problem.
On today’s episode of Straight Up with Marc Patrone, Brar argues that 25 years after the attacks, Western institutions are increasingly reluctant to confront who carried them out and why.

Brar also takes aim at New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over their conduct during the reading of victims’ names at Ground Zero, while criticizing Canadian media coverage and CBC’s short-lived directive against referring to the 9/11 attacks as “terrorism.”
Plus, Patrone and Brar debate whether the West’s response to 9/11 ultimately eroded some of the freedoms the terrorists sought to attack, pointing to expanded security measures and restrictions on civil liberties.
Finally, Brar weighs in on immigration, populism and the broader ideological battles facing Western countries, warning that the lesson of 9/11 is that the West cannot return to what she calls the “delusions of September 10th.”
