Barnes says that for too long the concerns of Albertans have not been adequately addressed by MPs in the House of Commons and that only a new federal party led by Albertans, for Albertans, will be able to advance Alberta's interests in Ottawa.
Barnes speaks with Harrison Faulkner on the latest episode of Ratio'd about his party's position on independence, the impact this will have on the Conservative Party and the message that Barnes is intending to send to Albertans and MPs in Ottawa.
Barnes stops short of making Alberta independence the party's stated position. Instead, he says the party will respect the wishes of Albertans on the question of independence and allow its MPs to represent their constituents rather than follow a national party line.
