When does the decision made by someone to beat the crap out of another person not become that persons decision. Why doesn't the court make decisions based on the actions of the individual before the court. We are all influenced by our upbringing, good or bad. How is society at large protected when people who continually make bad decisions are allowed to remain free of punishment? What message does a convicted person get when there are no consequences for their actions? And if we are all equal before and under the law, why are seeing different sentences for people for people from different backgrounds? Isn't madame justice blindfolded so that the appearance of the person before the court doesn't matter? Just asking for a friend.
Colonization, which has been over for many generations before this person was born, could not have been the reason for why he beat the crap out of his partner. It's his own problem. And the irony of so many of these wrong minded decisions is that aboriginal women bear the brunt of it. The SCOC has decided that protecting aboriginal women is secondary. Shame on their souls.
