I seem to recall that Stelco used to make a broad range of steel products but that was a long time ago and I know they went through rough times in the past as well so likely made a bunch of changes each time.
Regardless though there are a number of steel facilities in Canada so if the goal is buy Canadian the question remains (and I think it's pretty obvious given who is sadly in the driver's seat in what used to be Canada) why would China be involved for anything.

I don't know if Canadians realize how dangerous using Chinese steel actually is. My husband, now retired, used to work for a large residential apartment company & did their maintenance. At one point, the company decided to purchase "connections" & other parts from China rather than the U.S. because they were cheaper. Turns out, they were wasting their money because these "connections/parts" had to be replaced every 3 or 4 months whereas the U.S. ones, may have been more expensive but lasted 10x's longer - 10 or 15 YEARS!!
So, I'm sorry, but I hope I NEVER have to transit a bridge made of Chinese steel because I wouldn't trust it would hold!! Just sayin... That is something that needs to be taken into consideration. And DUMPING is a MAJOR issue as well, especially for the Americans. They don't want Chinese steel either!!!
Carney is purposefully destroying our economy so he can then implement his New World Order which likely means selling off any resources to outside entities, line his pockets as well as Brookfields. He has no vested interest in Canada & from what the CEO of Stelco says, Carney is the one reneging on the previous agreements. I hope it goes to court & Carney is found detrimental to our economy.
