The real history and creation of Canada tells a different story that contradicts the notion of renegades and risk-takers forging a united identity. "The Crown" has always been the secret hand, imposing a "system of governance" and unifying independent provinces under Con-Federation that continues to benefit a small global elite. Many of the early settlers were upper middle class members of their originating societies, who benefitted by the extension their aristocratic society. The settlers who barely survived were just pawns and fodder in the game of dominion. Through operatives such as The Round Table, the Milner Group, The Fabian Society and Rhodes Trust, the imperialistic machinery crafted a fake patriotism and, instilled a 'respect for the hierarchy'. MacDonald and Pearson were willing operatives to promote programs to secure the Crown's hold on a vast and valuable asset adjacent to its former colony. True nation building initiatives by the likes of CD Howe and Bill Bennett were undermined and destroyed. The machinery all too obviously continues to operate today (as evidenced by the prevalence of Rhodes Scholars in power positions and the appointment of insiders such as Louise Arbour).
The only unifying force is a corrupt, authoritarian central government that has granted itself power and authority to "manage" its resources, including its people, for its own ends. Maurice Strong and Pierre Trudeau infiltrated the system with the installation of Cybernetics to diffuse resistance to this control and orient the system towards obedience to this unearned, and unnatural authority. "Canada" is just a system, not a unified identity. There may be regions where a natural culture still nurtures a common bond, but those regions don't have genuine concern, shared values or common culture to form any kind of filial relationship between each other thousands of miles apart. They're more like distant extended family that only share a genetic trait and bit of history. The influx of new genetic streams and diverse histories diminishes any connection even more.
