"If an elected official genuinely believes that changing sides serves the public interest, the clean and morally coherent act would be to return to voters and seek a renewed mandate."

...THAT SIMPLE..

While it would never happen under the corrupt governance that is Lieberal the above must, at some point and with another more competent Government become the law.

What to jump ship???

Go back to those you betrayed and make your case in front of those you where a traitor to and be judged.

When you elect an MP without principles then you can’t be surprised when they act in an unprincipled way. For years, the Conservative Party has been pursuing the same voters as the Liberals, with nearly identical policies based on polling and the perceptions of political advisors rather than on principled conservative ideas. For example, the Conservatives in parliament unanimously voted with the Liberals on their ban of conversion therapy. The party has also consistently supported supply management even while blaming the Liberals for high food prices. These are the sorts of things that keep me backing the People’s Party.

I was with you until the People’s Party bit. Maybe with a new leader, but, sadly, I’ve come to think MB is a fraud. I’ll likely just stay home next time.

Leslie...

Always vote ... It's not only a right it's a responsibility.

Even if your vote is a protest vote.

While I understand what you stated consider a vote for the PPC as close as you can get to none of the above.

If you can't do that you can vote with a "Decline to vote" ..

Not sure of the exact phrase but you show up and tell them you wish to vote for nobody.

Real Conservatives have the same problem in what used to be Ontario with the fake Conservative Premier, Doug Fraud.

Many, an increasing number of actual Conservatives are voting for the New Blue party and while they may never gain actual traction as a sitting party in that Province those increasing numbers will sooner than later damage the fake Conservatives like Fraud and the Liberal back room types who run the party in marginal ridings.

At that point the OPC will have a decision or two to make as to leader and direction.

In any case...

Vote

Thanks, William, for your encouragement. If I don’t, it would be my very first time not voting in what’s been a very long life, and so, yes, my sense of responsibility will probably win out in the end.

Sure wish PPC would find a new leader.

There needs to be a pool of voters to hold fake conservatives accountable. People in Britain voted repeatedly for conservatives and only ever got socialism. It took the rise of reform

Uk to finally punish them.

If the floor crossers don’t want to cause a costly by election when changing their mind after being elected on different principles they at the very least could sit as an independent and Instead of using their family as a scapegoat they could become more honourable. Why do we use the term honourable for these elected officials - let them earn the title first maybe after they retire a retrospective analysis of their conduct would be a better way of assessing that distinction.

From the above article: " ... serves the public interest ... morally coherent act ... altruism" et al.

These are words and phrases that do not belong in any serious discussion on politics as practised by the so-called Liberal Party. They have no meaning in this arena.

No more than does the self-anointed honorific "The Right Honourable" or, the antiquated and medieval "Your Worship" when it comes to politicians and their appointed judges.

I cringe anytime I force myself to watch even a snippet of that pack of 4-year old children hurling childish insults at each other across the floor. Then, without so much as a smile, referring to their opponent as "The Right Honourable.' Our Parliament! A daycare for spoiled children. Meaningless.

All Canadian business is conducted in back rooms. None in Parliament.

Anyone with their eyes open during the past decade + of Canada's downfall understands the overt and unapologetic criminal nature of the current government and their dictatorial aspirations - which are nearing a fait accompli. Their only apparent purpose now, is to remove any remaining loose change from our national treasury before slinking off into the mist.

For all the Liberal voters out there who do not appear to understand that the current government is NOT Liberal, here's one of my favourite quotes from Dante, given while discussing his masterpiece, Inferno:

"The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis."
