This is, in large part, due to the unfettered influx of literally millions of immigrants in a short period, overwhelming existing facilities. Most, if not all of these new Canadians, had little, or poor medical care in their home countries.
Like most other Canadians, I've been, and continue to be, a victim of this government-sponsored idiocy. At 80, I'm going on my eighth consecutive year without a family doctor. BTW, I am in that now-shrinking minority, a white, Anglo Saxon 10th generation Canadian. Recently, out of necessity, I visited the one, operating walk-in clinic in Ottawa for a pressing medical issue. This single clinic was the only one available to support the needs of a city of one million people. At 9 am, I joined a lineup of 30-40 people, waiting outside, to get into the inner lineup of another 20 people. After a total of 5 hours waiting, I finally got to see a (doctor?) who was unable to communicate with me in my native tongue - English. To my knowledge, among the 50 - 60 people I encountered during that miserable experience, only three others were non-visible minorities, the vast majority were middle-eastern. I am not being racist, simply reporting what I experienced. I asked myself; why aren't all these people at work? None of them appeared to be in any immediate medical distress. I guess that's because they don't have jobs - which is an issue for another time.
To require, by Government decree, our medical professionals to bow to this nonsensical, woke agenda, largely to support new immigrants, is sheer madness.
Could someone please, arrange a psychiatric exam for the person who proposed this?

I spoke about this with an American acquaintance just yesterday ... their Healthcare is better - she said you can get a hip replacement within 2 months! I can't even get an orthopedic consult for 2 years!!

Lol. We have a GP. But we need to drive for 3 and 1/2 hours to see her, pay for a hotel, and wait. She told us two years ago that Canada's health care was broken. Three years ago both my wife and I were able to claim a medical exemption on Trudeaus CRA income tax. Then 3 years ago it was cancelled. Of course the GP was allowed to re apply for us but she said "Don't bother". The doc had tried to apply for an 80+ woman who needed a walker but was denied. The good news is that if retirees don't want to suffer any more we can get on the MAID list. I hate the LPC.

To your point, less than a year ago my seventy-five year old wife had a nasty fall in the home. I called for an ambulance. My wife in a great deal of pain had to be stretchered out. Victoria General had no place but the hallway where she stayed for fourteen hours. X Rays the next day showed a shattered right hip.
She received hip replacement surgery, into a room afterwards until the next day when she was wheeled back to the hallway.
I complained to the nurses station on her floor. The Nurse was sympathetic but said there were no spare rooms. The ones that used to be were filled with drug related/psychological patients.
This will likely become an even worse situation finding people who would or have chosen the medical field as a profession. People practising in medical care should never be expected to forego all their professional learning to become promoters of the Foolish LIBERAL agenda which has already created a shortage of people in the medical profession. Unfortunately, we don't have much control about not getting sick, and I'm not sure about having control over not going to a hospital. In my community, if you need medical attention on a weekend, and contact the doctor's office, you are told to go to the Emergency. In many communities, the Emergency Departments are closed on the weekend. If I go to my doctor's office to ask for a procedure I am quite often told "Oh, we don't do that anymore." So I am getting the point that they don't do preventative medicine anymore.

Questionable if they are paid off. Remember Trudeau’s line “we are in this together”. I think he meant the political establishment and the administrative arms of the liberal government were in on it together. Apparently we didn’t get the memo.

Unfortunately, we don't have much control about not getting sick, and I'm not sure about having control over not going to a hospital. In my community, if you need medical attention on a weekend, and contact the doctor's office, you are told to go to the Emergency. In many communities, the Emergency Departments are closed on the weekend. If I go to my doctor's office to ask for a procedure I am quite often told "Oh, we don't do that anymore." So I am getting the point that they don't do preventative medicine anymore.
