In a move that’s sure to take the wind out of Premier David Eby’s claims that BC Conservatives offer British Columbians instability, the Conservative Party of British Columbia has announced that if the province elects Lorne Doerkson to be the province’s next Premier, he will remain leader of the party.
This comes after the Conservative Party of British Columbia announced that its board of directors have decided to keep Doerkson on as the party’s leader if BC Conservatives form government at the end of October.
“When Mr. Doerkson leads the Party to victory on October 24, he will remain Leader. The Board will pursue the appropriate means under the Party’s Constitution and Bylaws and the Societies Act to give effect to this intention,” the board of directors for the party said in a statement released on social media on Wednesday.
“A Premier chosen by British Columbians deserves the certainty of leading his party. This amendment will provide it.”
The move comes after NDP Premier David Eby announced the dissolution of the provincial legislature on Sunday, saying that BC Conservatives “offer” voters “chaos, division, culture war, acquiescence, giving up cuts,” calling their platform an “embarrassing pale vision of what British Columbia can be.”
Since the announcement, the Conservative Party of British Columbia has invited at least 13 MLAs who left or were kicked out of the party to take on Eby in a snap election, which Conservatives are calling “cynical” and a waste of the province’s already depleted financial resources.
