Liberal MPs voted 5-4 Thursday to make sure Canadians won't find out, killing a Commons investigation before ministers could be questioned or secret negotiating records released.

The showdown followed the Carney government agreeing to give the U.S. 50 per cent of defined net bridge toll revenues for 15 years — a concession absent from the original 2012 agreement.

Conservatives demanded to know why Ottawa surrendered bridge revenues after taxpayers financed the $6.4-billion project, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

“It is incredibly important for us as parliamentarians to have factual information,” Conservative MP Dan Albas told the committee.

“The Prime Minister made statements that directly contradict what was in the agreement, and made them multiple times.”
