Carney faces emergency probe over Gordie Howe bridge concessions
Opposition MPs will hold an emergency committee hearing after Carney admitted he “should have been clear” about the deal
Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing a parliamentary showdown over his Gordie Howe International Bridge agreement after opposition MPs launched a special hearing into whether he misled Canadians about secret toll-sharing concessions granted to the United States.
Conservative MP Kelly McCauley, chair of the House of Commons government operations committee, announced Thursday that opposition members had requested an “urgent investigation” into the agreement and the government’s public explanations of its terms.
“As their chair, I will convene a meeting on Wednesday, July 29 to allow the committee to get to the bottom of the matter,” McCauley said.
