Former Liberal MP Shaun Chen is facing scrutiny after citing health issues that prevent him from regularly travelling to Ottawa, while records show multiple trips since his 2025 motorcycle accident, including two trips to China.
Questions have also been raised about whether Chen was in China when he voted on Bill C-9 on March 23. His voting record shows he voted that day, while a Chinese social media post appeared to place him in Guangdong.
Chenâs records show seven Toronto-to-Ottawa trips costing taxpayers nearly $8,500. Neither Chen nor his office responded to questions about his China trips, whether they were disclosed, or whether he voted while abroad. Keep Reading
Border officers raid Calgary international student hunger strike
Canada Border Services Agency officers attended a weeks-long international student hunger strike in Calgary and checked protestersâ immigration status, according to a source familiar with the operation.
No arrests were made, but the source told Juno News that protesters with outstanding warrants would have been arrested, while those without valid immigration status were summoned to a border security office for further action.
The protesters, including students from Portage College and the Canadian Institute of Osteopathic Therapy, have been demanding work permits after their student visas expire. Keep Reading
Carney taps Evan Siddall, critic of âglorifiedâ homeownership, for housing role
Prime Minister Mark Carney has tapped former CMHC CEO Evan Siddall to chair Build Canada Homes, despite Siddall previously questioning why Canadians have âglorified this idea of home ownership.â
During his time at CMHC, Siddall spent hundreds of thousands of dollars researching a potential home equity tax, which could have taken a share of proceeds when families sold their homes. The proposal was later dropped after public scrutiny.
Siddall also agreed that homeownership had become âa driving source of inequality in Canada,â arguing that falling home prices would benefit people trying to enter the market while hurting existing homeowners. Keep Reading
