Canada's growing illegal dumping problem and the individuals behind it
Several municipalities have recorded a surge in illegal dumping incidents over the last several years.
The problem has become so widespread that activists and concerned citizens have recorded several incidents and have been driven to confront the perpetrators.
In every one of the many videos posted online in the last few years where the dumpers are identifiable, the individuals discarding their trash on highways, beaches, parking lots, and privately owned farms have been of Indian descent. Keep Reading
CBSA flags 12 Calgary student protesters as potentially inadmissible
The Canada Border Services Agency has flagged 12 protesters as potentially inadmissible after officers checked the immigration status of people taking part in a weeks-long international student hunger strike in Calgary.
CBSA said Calgary police initially requested status checks on four individuals, two of whom were found not to be in compliance with their immigration status. Officers then conducted further checks on additional protesters.
Those identified for further investigation were asked to attend a CBSA office for follow-up interviews. Keep Reading
Canadian families spend more on taxes than basic necessities: study
The average Canadian family spent 42 per cent of its income on taxes in 2025, according to a Fraser Institute study, exceeding what it spent on housing, food and clothing combined.
A family earning $121,111 on average paid $50,721 in total taxes last year, including income, payroll, sales, property, fuel, carbon and other taxes.
The study found taxes have grown nearly 3,000 per cent since 1961, compared with a 2,349 per cent increase in housing costs and a 952 per cent increase in food costs. Keep Reading
