The Alberta government has officially proposed a southern West Coast pipeline route, abandoning its push for a northern B.C. northern-coast option.

Tobacco company launches “put your lighters down” campaign for Calgary Stampede
Ahead of the Calgary Stampede happening this weekend, Rothmans Benson and Hedges, one of the largest tobacco companies in Canada, launched an educational campaign to help encourage Stampede goers to quit smoking and switch to less harmful smoke-free nicotine alternatives.
The tobacco company’s “Unsmoke Canada” initiative will run its “Put Your Lighters Down” awareness campaign, themed towards the annual Calgary Stampede, across the city in the hopes of convincing adults who are still smoking to put down combustible tobacco for good. Keep Reading
B.C.‘s teachers’ union renamed Canada Day “Land Back Day”
The British Columbia Teachers’ Federation, the province’s sole K-12 teachers’ union, has been silent since it sent out a highly ideological calendar to schools and members. Rather than noting that July 1 is Canada Day, the union decided to call the anniversary of Canada’s confederation “Land Back Day.”

Carney says oil tanker ban will remain in effect
Prime Minister Mark Carney and B.C. Premier David Eby says the federal government will fully maintain the North Coast tanker ban as part of a proposed pipeline agreement. The 2019 ban restricts large crude oil tankers off northern B.C. waters.

U.S. refuses to extend CUSMA, sending it into annual review
The United States has decided not to renew the Canada-U.S.-Mexico-trade agreement “in its current form,” sending the trilateral agreement into an annual review process.
