Hopes were high for Republican Party of Alberta leader Cameron Davies in last night’s Olds-Didsbury-Three Hils by-election, with speculation that Davies could win over 30% of the vote.
When Alberta becomes an independent nation it will not be through the efforts of a political party but by individual Albertans voting yes in a referendum. Parties can suck all the energy out of a cause and become distracting targets. You end up with two people who both want independence each voting for a different party. “Republican Party of Alberta” is not a name that will unify Albertans.
In the long term watch for a growth in the popularity of Preston Manning's WESTERN CANADA ASSEMBLY that will span Alberta's borders to the East, West, and North.
He was on the Kenney team. Kenney is just a Federal Liberal masquerading as a conservative. He proved that during the so called pandemic. I am glad this guy lost. We now need a referendum on separation. Smith has promised this and we should just make sure she follows thru. She has made a couple of missteps but still way better than what we could expect from the NDP. Can you just imagine the big purple bubble leading Alberta. We would be in worse trouble than we are now with Ottawa.
Davies and the Republican party are opportunists using Albertans' Independence project for his own personal gain. He has nothing but contempt for Danielle Smith and his goal is to take votes away from her. This sets up the possibility of The NDP gaining enough votes to become Alberta's government. Heaven forbid !! if this happens, everything Danielle has accomplished for Alberta would be gone and Alberta would be fine, just like the rest of Canada. Don't fall for the antics of the Republican party or Davies. Don't jeopardize what we have going for us in Alberta. Use you critical thinking skills now more than ever. There will be even more scams upcoming trying to destroy Alberta's Independence and Danielle Smith.
If Davies cares at all about Alberta’s future, he would be throwing his support behind Premier Smith - Canada’s greatest premier. Actions do speak louder than words Mr. Davies! Narcissistic personalities always strongly show their “me-me” side! They just can’t help it!!!!
I have to laugh, his campaign was a disaster from the get-go, fake Liberal signs, calling the party Republican when Trump is so disliked as his style of Republican, Whomever thought all this stuff up sure wasn't a politician!
Well, all I can say is he lies just as often as Carnage does, so I assume you are a follower of him as well. This does not talk at all about the absolute corruption of these two “leaders”. You get what you vote for.
His loose use of what he says is the truth disturbs me greatly, although I do think that some of his policies could be used in a Canadian way in Canada.
Well, his loose use, as you call it, still translates into Trump doing what he says he'll do, unlike the libs who say whatever people want to hear for the moment and then do little to follow through or change the direction entirely.
This was a major setback for the real independent Alberta movement. Who paid for this? Why did the campaign signs look like liberal signs? Thank you Corey for those insights. All excellent points for thought.
This should have no affect on the independent movement and in fact should solidify the direction and leadership of the movement. The last thing that is needed is fragmentation.

Actually Trump is more liked than you think. He's a politician who Actually does what he says. We need a LOT more like him!

never heard of him
The article would be even better with sound. WTF? The internet has been in use for a quarter century now. Why can't these IT techs get it right?
People are voting for the man at this point. Alberta cannot do this alone.
Good. He looks like a fat Zelensky.
Just how long do you think this will take if ever?
