Ontario taxpayers shelled out $25,000 for Premier Doug Ford’s “Lake Ontario” sign aimed at U.S. President Donald Trump — a price tag the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says was an expensive way to make a political point.
The bilingual sign, reading “Lake Ontario, now and always,” was unveiled by Ford last Saturday at Fifty Point Conservation Area in Grimsby, Ont.
The sign was erected days after Trump signed an executive order directing U.S. government agencies to refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America” in government records and maps.
The premier’s office confirmed the sign cost approximately $25,000 to print and erect, CTV News reported.
“There are a lot cheaper ways to send a message to the president,” Canadian Taxpayers Federation Ontario Director Noah Jarvis told the National Post.
“The president himself does it all the time with his tweets and his posts on Truth Social,” he added.
