Kingston Police are on the lookout for an inmate who was “unaccounted for” during a headcount at a minimum-security unit at the Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.
Mason Jenkins, a white 49-year-old man with a shaved head, was serving a life sentence at the prison for first-degree murder and drug trafficking charges.
Kingston Police notified the public on Thursday that Jenkins was on the loose and asked anybody who sees him to inform police immediately and not approach the man.
As per the police report, “49-year-old Mason Jenkins is described as a white male, 5’9, approximately 255 lbs, with a fair complexion, brown eyes and brown hair, currently shaved bald.
“Jenkins was last seen wearing a light green jacket, blue jeans and rubber boots.”
Jenkins was convicted of first-degree murder and possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Correctional Service Canada explained the incident, stating that during a formal count, staff members at Collins Bay Institution, a multi-level security federal institution, discovered that he was not accounted for.
“The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Kingston Police Department, and a warrant for the inmate’s arrest has been issued,” the federal organization said in a statement Thursday.
Police urge anyone with information pertaining to his whereabouts to call Kingston Police at 613-549-4660 ext. “0,” and if anyone sees him, they are asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
