As Canada Day has arrived, a majority of Canadians say they are proud of their country, with young adults becoming significantly more invested in their country compared to last year.
A poll conducted by Abacus Data found that 68 per cent of Canadians report being proud to be Canadian, a two per cent increase from last year.
Older Canadians have consistently reported high levels of national pride, as 83 per cent of those aged 60 and up say they are proud of their nationality, up two per cent from 2024.
However, younger Canadians saw a significant boost in their sense of national pride, with 62 per cent of Canadians aged 18 to 29 reporting being proud to be Canadian, up 13 points from last year.
While just under six-in-ten Canadians aged 30 to 44 expressed pride in being Canadian, the lowest of any age group, Canadians 45 to 59 years old saw their pride in being Canadian drop four points from last year, down to 63 per cent. Only one-in-ten adults said they are not proud to be Canadian.
For those who indicated pride in Canadian identity, the top reasons for their love of Canada include the country’s natural beauty, Canada’s relative peace and security, and the universal healthcare system. Other reasons include being distinct from the United States, values of tolerance and inclusivity, and a strong sense of community and belonging.
On the other hand, those who indicated a lack of pride in Canada primarily cited disagreement with Canadian policies or political decisions, economic struggles, a lack of cultural identity, and negative experiences with Canadian institutions.
Beyond polling, some measures in the market indicate that there has been a recent surge in patriotism. In an interview with CTV News, Brian Nash of Flags Unlimited, Canada’s largest flag manufacturer, said that his flag sales are up 75 per cent compared to 2024, while flagpole sales rose 35 per cent.
However, other measures show that interest in throwing your “elbows up” to fight back against U.S. President Donald Trump may be waning.
In March, Rachael Coe launched a merchandise line that sold 2,500 different products with the “elbows up” theme. However, by May, the merchandise’s sales began slowing down, despite the approach of Canada Day.
If Canadians loved their country, they wouldn't be electing a government that's bent on destroying it.
There is nothing to be proud of, the people our country are suffering greatly as the greedy scum politicians are stealing every dime that they can & instead of legacy media calling these bastards out they are hiding and lying all the facts from Canadians & aiding in the destruction of their own country all because they get our stolen money from these traitors & Canadians are like braindamaged sheep that accept anything that is told to them, it's disgusting..!!
