Absolutely agree. Danielle is our “Iron Lady “

Love this woman!! She walks the talk!!! Liberal-NDP is against everything she stands for. Including freedom to choose.

I've read that Switzerland runs that way, with a referendum on every major question. And Switzerland doesn't appear to be falling apart.

David James's avatar

Canada is being made to purposefully fall apart. Isn't that a crime? Trudeau and Carney both smirk about it.

Also being designed to make citizens dependent on government = welfare state like the Equalization program creates.

I lived in Switzerland for 3+ years Ruth - that’s exactly how government enact changes, decisions etc. Citizens receive documentation about the proposed changes, ideas and return their vote to be counted in the legislative process!

Ontario here. May we please borrow her for a decade or so? Puhleeeze??

Donald/Raelene Bell's avatar

We just need to clone her. I live in BC and we are looking to move back to Alberta because of Danielle.

Rob Ollerenshaw's avatar

I know I'm not the only Ontarian looking to move to Alberta as well because of Danielle.

You’re not, no doubt about it!👍🏼

We welcome all of you but please promise to attempt to get a job and become self-supporting. 😀 The entrepreneurial spirit amd true freedom are part of our "culture". You can be free to determine your and your family's destiny with a government that will listen to ALL Albertans. No authoritative, tinpot dictatorship from an arrogant global elitist big talker and no doer, unless we the people of Alberta choose to remain part of Canada with a sovereignty of a nation within a nation

Just reading and remembering all the things you’ve written about here Keenan is something we don’t hear or see much of anymore. To be fortunate enough to live in a place where this luxury currently exists is truly a gift not many Canadians enjoy. Thanks for your words!!

Thanks for reading, Marilyn

Especially thanks for your response and now I can say apologies for misspelling your name! 🙏🙏

Danielle Smith and Moe of SK , the top 2 premiers in Canada.

I dare Nenshi the chicken to initiate a referendum to impose a sales tax on Albertans. I bet he would salivate at the thought!

Clone Danielle, and send one clone to every province east of Manitoba. Ontario and Quebec warrant at least three clones.

Keean Bexte's avatar

Unfortunately she really is one of a kind!

I agree on the effort to fulfil promises. I also was wondering about the promise that politicians wouldn't set their own salaries. Haven't heard anything on that yet.

A true Alberta patriot our Danielle is!

Now there is a real leader For Canada 🇨🇦 Good for you Premier Smith. Maybe your your political fortitude will be contagious

That is awesome! The essence of freedom is getting to decide yourself what is best for you. The essence of slavery is having others decide what is best for you (which almost universally means having others decide what is best for them.

In addition to the European examples, every year there are dozens of propositions in US elections at the municipal, state and school board levels.

William Stewart's avatar

While certainly not perfect.

Smith is generally on the correct side of most issues.

This is simply another example that generally she absolutely gets it and has Alberta first in mind.

Thank you, Juno News! Danielle is one amazing leader! Wish more were like her! Praying for Canada!

Yes, definitely agree. Let's hope that Premier Smith is the iron lady of this decade, even if not, she certainly deserves much credit for limiting the entrenchment of the bureaucracy's influence on everything that happens within her watch.

I am reminded of a recent discussion I had about its effect on entrepreneurs and innovators.

For example, my ....berry-farmer buddy who also retails and wholesales parts of his crop, on average spends two days a week at his desk to do all the paperwork, all to comply with regulations few politicians are even aware of.

While the politicians pass enabling legislation, it is the bureaucrat who fills in the regulatory blanks and takes any latitude available to them and turns straightforward matters into a burdensome administrative load. The regulatory outcome may be quite different from the policy objectives parliament or legislature envisioned.

My berry-farmer buddy thinks that over-regulation will cause many producers to sell-out to larger and corporate entities who themselves operate a compliance bureaucracy. Its cost? It is part of your grocery bill, hence higher prices.

Our system of government has become so extremely complexed that it would years for politicians to get a good overview of it, let alone ministers who move in and out of portfolios after short periods of time to master them. It leaves the minister as well as legislators at the mercy of the folks who make a career in the bureaucracy and who will sit out the stint of any minister who they disagree with.

Back to the referendum initiative. It may well be that for the first time in history that the voter gets the opportunity to overrule or helps bypass the bureaucratic stranglehold on the political class.

She has done a wonderful job with class and dignity. I will only hope we can hold on to her.

Christian's avatar

If Alberta stays part of Canada, I sincerely hope that I live long enough to see Danielle Smith become our Prime Minister.

…and if it doesn’t, these policies should be embedded in whatever style Legislation/Constitution is developed so they cannot be cancelled by the ‘next leader’.
