The Maple Leaf forever ... "In days of yore, from Britain's shore, Wolf, the dauntless hero came And planted firm Britania's flag In Canada's fair Domain ..." That was our national anthem from 1867 through to 1957. 90 years, the Dominion of Canada stood firm in our cultural foundations, Based on Truth, Freedom and Christian values. Our nation grew and flourished over those years. By the '60s we had "Separatism" that grew out the rantings of a news correspondent from WWII, named L:eveque who fanned the fires, of an innate hatred fed by a society who rioted against going to war in WWI and in WWII, That movement was the beginning of the end of the Canada we used to know and love. Now, in the 21st Century, we have a divided nation between East and West. The East with selfish power has tried to change this country so much that it has become unrecognizable from the country that I was born into in 1947... The Canada, I knew and loved does not exist any more. It has been taken over by a bunch of crazy frenchies from the Laurentian hills, and infiltrated foreigners who don't talk, eat, dress, or think like "Canadians". This cultural change started with Trudeau 1st, in the 1960's, and has now continued with Trudeau 2nd, and his followers, with the coffin nail idea of "Elbows up"coming from that creeps successor... So now, after trying, unsuccessfully, as an Anglo, for most of my life, to find some common ground, in education and government, with the East and Fankophonia; the conclusion I have come to is ... Independence, Alberta's only hope! Alberta and a couple of neighbour friends are the only true preservers of that elusive "Canadian Culture", people talk about.
Thank You for the truth talk. Your report mimics my memories back to 1948. Except I loved trud#1s catholic attempts to stretch us in embrace and kind understanding of all the various human natures of Canadians sea to sea and to the world of people-difference. And much prefer his direction over the luciferian/satanic ways of Trud#2 who shredded everything GO(O)D about Canada and sold out to the evil, dark Satanic WEF/NWO/UN. Two men showing two extreme sides of one coin. Light OR dark. Please let's together flip the coin back to show the LIGHT SIDE AGAIN. And throw out all the Carney devils.
I can't wait to get an Alberta passport. Albertans get nothing from Ottawa except a hassle from CRA. Liberal PM Pearson gave us the Liberal Red Canadian flag. Any person that has seen a tree knows leaves are green. Since Justin Trudeau got elected Canada has been a country in distress which is why I have flown my Canadian flag upside down. Canada needs Alberta but Alberta does not need Canada. The equalization transfers are really just welfare payments from Alberta to most of the rest of Canada.
In December 2015, Prime Minister Trudeau claimed in The New York Times Magazine that Canada was ‘the first postnational state’, adding that there was ‘no core identity, no mainstream in Canada’
If Sask doesn't join you, then I'll be getting myself an AB passport. I sure hope they can pull this off, but with so much opposition and legal wrangling, it could take a lot longer than we originally thought. It's long past time to leave the east to live as they want...without our money & resources.
It is also worth knowing how and why the Dominion was formed. BC was bankrupt and had reached out to join the US. The Crown panicked about losing their highly prized colony adjacent to the former, still-coveted one. If BC went, likely so would (privately owned) "Rupert's Land". A transcontinental railroad was the enticing carrot. The Crown purchased Rupert's Land and Con-federation was concocted. Just an Imperialist ruse to maintain the Empire under the direction of Imperialists like MacDonald, The Round Table Group, the Milner Group and the Fabian Society.
My perspective, after all these years, is that the Confederation of Upper & Lower Canada with the Maratimes, in 1867, was for the purpose of defending British North America, from the Americans. Don't ever forget the attacks of the Fenians who tried to invade "Canada" from 1866 to 1869.
We even have a silver medal that was issued to our militia who fought the Yanks in those days. Read your history !
I don’t celebrate Canada Day as the Canada I knew is gone. The pandering to Quebec started years ago and continues to this day. Canada for the most part is circling the blame and I do not blame Alberta separatists for wanting to escape this ill fated confederation where eastern (call them central canada if you want) carpetbaggers rape the West on daily basis. Quebec has never paid a dime to equalization as the feds exempted hydro revenue from the equalization formulae. Alberta has paid 100’s of billions. That a fair deal?
Regarding: "While Canada shies away from its past, Americans embrace the circumstances of their country’s founding with Independence Day, rather than some silly “America Day”."
The NEED by so many of present day Canadians to be told what to do, not to do, how to live our lives / not live our lives, and what is good for us / bad for us is a trait that is abhorred by the typical American. Truth be known, it's also abhorrent to Canadians who are capable of thinking for themselves. There's just too few of us to have our current political leaders turfed from office.
What pride those of us old enough to remember once had has largely disappeared, as the Canada we've known, loved, and grew up in, has been replaced with a Nanny State by a Marx-inspired set of ideologies, laws, bills, and policies of the Liberal Party.
Now, that same Liberal Party is telling us how proud we SHOULD all be for sticking together and complying with such virtuous, all-knowing, parental-style guidance in our rejection of our neighbors and cousins to the south of us. Apparently, we should also be proud to give up our personal independence, freedoms, opportunities, and national souvereignty, all in the name of embracing nonsensical social behaviours, fighting forest fires and the entire world's bad weather by removing CO2 from the global atmosphere, opening our borders with no vetting of people with completely incongruent and incompatible beliefs and cultures. Simply put: That is just BAD PARENTING.
Mr. Carney: A mosaic made with pieces that compliment each other can surely be beautiful. But that beauty can so easily be destroyed by adding pieces that conflict or are as immiscible as oil and water. I also don't believe there are any Canadians willing to accept or tolerate anything approaching the devil living freely among us in the name of diversification or inclusion. So a mosaic carelessly put together is nothing that any of us want (unless of course we're actually TRYING to destroy what we have).
This manner of the dominion day name change was a typical liberal demonstration of their in security and unethical trickery. To all the folks who thought this was “smart smooth political move” I hope someone does the same to you someday - shame on all of you !
Wow, at least three articles today about Dominion Day, I agree with every word. I've expressed those same views ever since I can remember!
Liberals have and continue to chip away at everything about Canada that I hold dear. I feel chastised for expressing my opinions at times as they are not politically correct. That will never stop me! I proudly fly the Red Ensign flag!
American's cherish their revolution, we should cherish Confederation. We have much more to be proud of than our southern neighbours.
Had this blurring of our culture never occurred I don't believe that any Albertan would even consider leaving this country. Stay and fight! Without our history we might as well be the fifty first state, not.
The Frenchies, in Queerbec have never gotten over the Plains of Abraham defeat. Deep down they still hate English people. Visit that city and see for yourself. We are not even close to the Yanks culturaslly speaking and any thought of joining them will result in the ending of the Canadian - Alberta - mentality.
WE have traveled to over 60 countries, traveling on land, meeting locals and experiencing local culture...... When we get back to Calagry we are always thankful that when we dropped out of the womb it was in Canada...yes Canada has issues but there minor compared to just about every other country. For Canada Day, we have Canada flags in our front yard, and proudly wear the Maple Leaf.
But do you know the words to that song, the Maple Leaf forever ?
The anthem we now have was translated from French. Having grown up in Quebec, fluently bilingtual, I soon found out that the word "Canadien", in the french version, referred only to French Canadians living in Quebec. "Canadien Habitant", like the Hockey Team, is what it means and all the Canadian Anglos, didn't undertand the trick that wes playing on us, They interpreted it to mean all Canadians. It was aat a time when everybody wanted get along with our french neigbours. But we never realized how much hate they had against English Canada.
Sucked in again, just like with the transfer payments.
Reminds me of an experience I had in Spain in about 1975. the Barber asked me where I was from. I said Canada. He said Danada. I said no, Canada. He repeated danada. I tried to correct him, but he corrected me. Danada, Spanish - "of no significance". Shocking then, but not so now.
Not a fan of Liberals but I happen to like our Flag 🇨🇦, it’s unique and represents everyone. And as for July1st being called Canada Day…..I like that too. Regardless of whose idea it was!

It's amazing how the Tale of Two Trudeaus ended in such tragedy.
Amen Brother !!!! FREE ALBERTA !!! pat
Your last sentence sums it up.

When we are free , we can celebrate Alberta Day.
Adieu Canada. Vive le Alberta Libre!

Trudeau was speaking the truth
I would prefer a Western Canada celebration day. Unfortunately BC (The Island and Vancouver) went full blown UNDRIP.
Canada will never rid itself of the sneaky gutless thieves called the liberal party.
GODSPEED ALBERTA!!!!!!!
If Sask doesn't join you, then I'll be getting myself an AB passport. I sure hope they can pull this off, but with so much opposition and legal wrangling, it could take a lot longer than we originally thought. Exactly!

Fascinating. I didn't know that.
Because its NOT true. More fake news.
No, it is true, however he has spun it to suit his point of view.

Generally all Canadians are of good character. It is Our governments that are the decay of our once free Canada.
Then please stop electing idiots to run government.
Yep Graham I agree with You . But I am just one voter with only one choice. Can You tell all the other voters to not vote for ??????
Exactly!
I assume you meant "circling the drain".
Correct. Typo. Lol. I did correct it but it didn’t show up right away. Glug glug whish. Ha ha
The Frenchies are "separatists" ! We Albertans are "Independentists"
(A very big difference in values, attitude, and motivations. from those of the 60's )

Excellent. Liberals want us to tolerate the devil.
In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
[CHORUS]
The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane
Our brave fathers side by side
For freedom's home and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died.
And so their rights which they maintained,
We swear to yeild them never.
Our watchword ever more shall be
The Maple Leaf Forever
[CHORUS]
Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever
[CHORUS]
America makes a horrible god.
I don’t celebrate Canada Day; I am a separatist and have been for 50 years.
I live in Ontario...and I'm beyond feeling that any of us should bother.
Masochism is over rated! Time to stop, reevaluate & leave the !
Sounds like Liberals have been slimy, self-serving, sneaky snakes, from the get go.
Most of the years before Trudeau were fairly good. We can celebrate those years but it’s hard to forget the years when we had two idiots as PM.
This manner of the dominion day name change was a typical liberal demonstration of their in security and unethical trickery. To all the folks who thought this was “smart smooth political move” I hope someone does the same to you someday - shame on all of you !

Agree 100% Any thought of us being the fifty first state would be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire,
Factoid: When asked by a reporter for his opinion of American culture Ghandi replied "That would a good idea."

What is there left to celebrate?
Slimy Pierre Trudeau, an admitted socialist, started the downward slide that Canada is in today and the Liberals have always been slimy
