On today's episode of The Candice Malcolm Show, Candice is joined by law professor Bruce Pardy to discuss how Indigenous veto power over land and resource projects threatens Canada’s prosperity.
Cut off the welfare/treaty free money and you'll see this go away. If we're sorting Canadians into groups, then we need to acknowledge Old Stock Canadians that built this country and put rules and regulations on newcomers to learn how to be Canadians before being allowed to into positions of power. Canada has become an international dump. Time to Wake Up.
i answered a survey recently & when i was asked about my heritage I did put European but really i wanted to put Canadian . My family has been here since New France time so really don't identify with the Europeans.
Wow! That was an earful of sanity! Canada must be the only country in the world that has different rules for different folks! Maybe Australia has something similar occurring there. In both these countries' cases it seems obvious that the reason for all these Treaties being signed and money and land being given to the Indigenous people is out of guilt! In Canada these people were almost wiped out from disease, starvation, and other deadly things all because the new Canadian lawmakers never treated them equally in the first place. So now they are tripping all over themselves with guilt and shame trying to "right all the wrongs" for decades! Has that helped anyone? I don't think so. Now the Indigenous are reliant on the government and that is the end goal (in government's mind) for everyone in this country, is it not, to trust and rely on the government and relinquish our freedoms, so we, none of us are free anymore?
I imagine that guilt or bad business originally. However, laws with them are now made to control them financially to do the governments bidding. They should have been given land of their own as individuals and left on their own.
New Country, new laws. Why would they grandfather the archaic treaties that have been leeching on Canada for way too long. Time to rip off the band aid.
Excellent show Candice. And I totally agree with Bruce. He is a very competent man in his field. I think though that the Indians should have to become citizens of the country. They should be given their treaty land and be given the equal rights of the citizens of the country. That also would mean they would only get an income from their own earnings. No more free rides. It's the only way they can become equal to the rest. As it has been and still is, they are just breeding continued welfare cases.
If I were to guess, the negative comments aren't towards western indigenous but specifically about the ones in the prairies. We have the highest population of indigenous folks and they have the highest crime, drug and homelessness rate in our provinces. I was speaking with a police officer and he said the crimes are committed by "Either feathers or turbans". FYI -not my words. In Manitoba indigenous men represent 15% of the population but account for 74% of those incarcerated. Indigenous children in foster care is 53% and they only make up 8%. This just proves that all the programs and funding have not been effective. After over 150 years they need to take accountability for the decisions they've made in their own lives.
This is just another Carney trick to cause more confusion and effectively block projects by secretly threatening chiefs with reduction of OUR money to support the Net Zero block pipelines, etc without appearing to do so.
I believe that most indigenous people would LOVE resource development. It's just a few paid protesters gumming up the works with their environmental crapola. Fort McMurray is a good example of land management. As in golfing, put back your divots. That's what those companies do. They restore the worked-out sections. It's not Mordor like those anti-energy goons claim.
We are one country with many origins. I wasn't born in Canada, but I am a Canadian with Dutch roots. So a question for you: How would you like to listen to an orchestra with nothing but violins - you have to admit it would be very boring, BUT put all the instruments together and they make beautiful music. It the same with all our different cultures. Let's stand together as ONE nation, under one flag with a common purpose - to make Canada strong AGAIN!
Canada needs to defund Indigenous. 600+ chiefs LOL.
First Nations is political fraud. Indigenous originated from Russia, crossing over a land bridge that existed thousands of years ago.
yup, they were the Clovis people.
It just shows that Canada is not ruled by "Common" sense, especially demonstrated in the last 10 years of Trudeau wokeism.

I agree. It should have been done many years ago. We are all Canadians and should be treated as the same.

The First Nation like all Alberta have a vote. I don’t understand what all the fuss is about.

Maybe loss of chief power and welfare checks.
