When does Carney get his majority government?
Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to secure a majority government as he's slated win at least one byelection on Monday. If he wins, when will he effectively have control of the House of Commons?
Prime Minister Mark Carney fell short of a majority on election night, but now, after a wave of floor crossings from Conservative MPs, he’s on the verge of securing one as three key byelections wrap up today.
Carney currently holds 171 seats in the House of Commons, just one short of the 172 required for a majority in the House of Commons. But with two Toronto-area byelections in Scarborough Southwest and University—Rosedale, ridings considered to be safe Liberal strongholds, and one Quebec byelection in Terrebonne, considered a toss-up between Liberals and the Bloc Québécois, Carney is nearly guaranteed his majority.
