WATCH: Time to end birthright citizenship? + 'O Canada' in ARABIC
'Straight Up' host Marc Patrone is joined by immigration expert Dr. Michael Bonner to discuss ending birthright citizenship, Carney's meeting with Trump, and how 'O Canada' was performed in Arabic
Should temporary residents and those with little real connection to Canada be able to easily gain Canadian citizenship?
In today’s episode of ‘Straight Up’, host Marc Patrone is joined by political consultant and immigration expert Dr. Michael Bonner to discuss Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner’s call to remove birthright citizenship from the Liberals' current citizenship Bill C-3.
Bonner, a former advisor to an Immigration Minsiter in the Harper Government, explains the reasoning behind the Conservatives’ call, and makes the case for reinstilling value in the idea of Canadian citizenship after years of the Trudeau Liberals diminishing Canada as a ‘post-national’ state.
Next, after the Prime Minister returned from Washington, D.C. empty-handed, Marc gets Bonner to respond to our Prime Minister’s meeting with Donald Trump, and whether Canadians should expect actual results when our Prime Minsiter heads south to meet with the U.S. President.
Finally, Bonner offers his thoughts on news that a Toronto high school decided to play an Arabic rendition of ‘O Canada’ on the second anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel.
What message does this send? And why is Canada’s national anthem being performed in anything other than Canada’s official languages?
Unfortunately there is little that we can do to end this travesty. Carney's Liberals know that.
We should be getting back to manageable levels of immigration. Hopefully Alberta leaves and we can manage our own.
