Video shows an Edmonton police officer shoot an alleged hostage taker from atop a firetruck's ladder
Daring amateur video caught an Edmonton police officer using a firetruck ladder as a platform to shoot a man inside an apartment residence during a reported domestic disturbance on Tuesday afternoon.
Edmonton police said officers were called to an apartment building near 102 Avenue and 121 Street around 3:15 p.m. after reports that a man armed with “multiple edged weapons” was allegedly threatening people inside a suite.
According to police, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services also responded, and officers located a suspect matching the description.

That’s when the incident took a unique turn.
Investigators said a confrontation occurred between the armed man and another resident, during which an officer fired their gun from what appeared to be a firetruck ladder elevated several metres in the air.
Police added that a 42-year-old man was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers or other residents were hurt.
Police said the video of the incident is part of their evidence under review.
The suspect involved was not named in the Edmonton police’s Wednesday statement, nor is it clear if he was charged, or if he remains in police custody.
Notably, 2023 saw a record-high 221 shootings within the Edmonton metropolitan area, up nearly 34 per cent from the previous year.
More recently, police recorded 15 shootings in June 2025 alone, an increase from eight shootings recorded in May 2025 and 11 shootings recorded in the same month in 2024.
