WATCH: Carney unaware of international student hunger strike as Smith says “go home”

The prime minister admitted to Juno News that he was unfamiliar with the protest, while Alberta’s premier said former students without valid status “need to go home.”

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was unaware of the around 1,000 former international students protesting after they were not granted work permits from their programs at Portage College, but said students who don’t have authorization to stay must follow “a process.”

In contrast, to the same question from Juno News, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told Juno News that former international students with expired visas and without permanent residency, “need to go home.”
