WATCH: Alberta tackles trucker training scams
In the latest episode of Not “Sorry”, host Alexander Brown dives deeper into the escalating crisis within the Canadian trucking industry - and what the Alberta Government is doing to crack down
In the latest episode of Not “Sorry” on Juno News, host Alexander Brown, Director of the National Citizens Coalition, dives deeper into the escalating immigration, employment, and crime and chaos-linked crisis that’s plaguing Canada: illegal trucking scams and unsafe practices.
Building on the explosive whistle-blowing episode with trucker and author Gord Magill, who exposed systemic flaws in driver training, safety standards, and regulatory loopholes, this instalment brings a high-level policymaker to the table: Alberta Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen.

Fresh off the Alberta government’s bold announcement of expanded trucking regulations and a continued safety blitz on Friday, Dreeshen joins Brown to unpack the province’s sweeping crackdown on bad actors in the trucking sector. The minister details how Alberta is ramping up enforcement to target unsafe commercial driver training schools and rogue carriers. Key measures include intensified inspections, rigorous audits, and targeted investigations aimed at rooting out fraud, misclassification schemes, “Drivers Inc.” employee exploitation practices, and so-called “chameleon carriers” that evade accountability by rebranding.
So far, the province has shuttered five substandard driver training schools and pulled 13 trucking companies off the roads for violations like poor safety records, faulty equipment, and improper employee records. Given the nature of Canada’s immigration crisis, more closures are anticipated as investigations continue, with the goal of elevating Alberta’s standards toward national Red Seal certification for commercial drivers.
Brown presses Dreeshen on the broader implications: Will these changes impact provinces such as British Columbia and Ontario, where trucking scams are particularly prevalent? Will Canada’s two official languages be better represented on the roads among drivers struggling with basic language proficiency and road signs?
And how does Minister Dreeshen feel about the Carney Liberals’ false start on repealing anti-resource legislation, and B.C. Premier David Eby’s hostility towards a shared west coast pipeline?

On April 6, 2018, 15 people were killed and 13 were injured when a northbound coach bus struck a westbound semi-trailer truck that blew through a stop sign near Armley, Saskatchewan, Canada. The driver of the truck had failed to yield at a flashing stop sign at the intersection of Saskatchewan Highways 35 and 335 while driving at a speed of approximately 100 km/h (62 mph). Most of the deceased and injured were players from the Humboldt Broncos, a junior ice hockey team from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, which plays in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).The truck driver who caused the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash has applied to have his permanent resident status returned. The Immigration and Refugee Board issued a deportation order in May for Jaskirat Singh Sidhu and his permanent resident status was revoked.
THIS is how long this bullshit has gone on..and our voices and protests has been buried by the MSM..
I was a shipper in Calgary in the mid 80s..and many truckers servicing our company had mentioned about a training center right across from our company that was training only tanned men wearing towels on their heads..People must have reported them cuz they got shut down..but not much news coverage about it..About a month after they left, I was delivering parts in the expanding Foothills Industrial Park..and there they were..new location..same company..same tanned towel wearing "drivers"..they are very persistent..cuz 40 years later they're still here...(Ontario)...I'm not gonna point fingers and say this issue is politically motivated, but back here in Ontario, (where accidents involving truckers with tans and head towels has spiked exponentially for decades) ,the Minister of Transportation has a tan..and towel on his head...strange coincidences indeed.!!...probably has something to do with the thousands of new "Canadians" with a big, red L pinned on their towel wrapped around their tanned head.
