Veteran Liberal MP to resign & take on EU ambassador role
Liberal MP Jonathan Wilkinson will resign his North Vancouver-Capilano seat and become Canada’s ambassador to the European Union as Prime Minister Mark Carney seeks to strengthen ties with Europe.
Jonathan Wilkinson, a longtime Liberal cabinet minister under former prime minister Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister Mark Carney, announced he will resign his Vancouver seat to take on a new role as ambassador to the European Union.
Wilkinson has served as the MP for North Vancouver—Capilano since 2015. He was minister of fisheries and oceans from 2018 to 2019, environment minister from 2019 to 2021, and minister of energy and natural resources from 2021 to 2026 under both Liberal prime ministers.
