A Vancouver woman has been sentenced to six years for a fatal stranger attack three years after she randomly stabbed a 29-year-old man in the chest.
Lyndsay Scott, 37, was initially charged with second-degree murder but was convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter after a jury trial.
According to the courts and investigators, the daytime stabbing and murder dates back to July 11, 2022 in Vancouver's Yaletown neighbourhood, where police said Justin Mohrmann was stabbed in the chest, randomly, while he walked downtown near Homer Street.
VPD officers arrested Scott, 34, a week after Mohrmann's murder.
Shortly after announcing Scott’s arrest in the summer of 2022, Vancouver Police Department Sgt. Steve Addison said the attack occurred during “rush hour on a Monday morning.”
“There were lots of people out on the street,” Addison added.
“Investigators have found no evidence to suggest the victim and accused knew each other,” Addison also added, when discussing the attack in the summer of 2022. “We believe they were strangers.”
Over a year later following the attack, local media announced Scott would be proceeding towards a jury trial.
The trial was delayed another year while Scott underwent "aggressive treatment" at B.C.'s Forensic Psychiatric Hospital before being deemed fit to stand trial.
During her trial, witness Scott Lethbridge testified on April 8 he was sitting outside the Vancouver Public Library's main branch when a woman — later identified as Lyndsey — approached and sat next to him.
"She said she stabbed somebody in the heart," Lethbridge told the court, adding Scott also talked about "14 dead babies."
Lethbridge described the woman as nervous and said he gave her $20 to make her leave.
The court later found "mental illness and drugs were contributing factors" in the fatal stranger stabbing.
In addition to her six-year sentence, Scott is banned from handling firearms for 10 years.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors seek a longer sentence for Tamara Lich & Chris Barber.
Canada is a banana republic.
if that was an illegal they would have been given a free pass, and thousands of dollars to start their life again. At least didn't throw it out because 'drugs' were involved and she may not have known what she was doing.....what a blarney justice system we have
