Vancouver police arrested a man in his 20s for allegedly assaulting and then urinating on a woman who was walking downtown early this morning.
According to a Friday post on X from the Vancouver Police Department, just after 6 a.m. on September 5—when many Vancouverites are on their way to work—a 31-year-old victim was walking near West Pender and Beatty Street when she encountered a naked man on top of a parked car.
Police said the suspect “began yelling, ran toward the victim, knocked her to the ground,” and then “urinated on her.”
Bystanders intervened and restrained the suspect until officers arrived, according to the VPD.
The suspect was arrested for the assault, and taken to the hospital under the Mental Health Act. He remains in secure custody at the hospital.
It remains unclear if the suspect has a criminal history as the police have not released his name.
Speaking with local media about the incident, Const. Tania Visintin called the assault both “very disgusting” and “very unfortunate.”
In a Friday afternoon media release, Vancouver police said they will forward a report to Crown counsel for consideration of criminal charges.
But, you know, giving addicts all the free drugs they want is the way to go. Just ask the BC NDP.
