U.S. trade report slams Ottawa's forced labour weakness
The U.S. Trade Representative ruled that enforcement appears weak, allowing forced labour goods to enter the Canadian market.
United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is raising concerns about Canada’s weakness in blocking goods made with forced labour, suggesting Ottawa is not doing enough to enforce its own laws.
The findings come from the 2026 National Trade Estimate report, an annual review submitted to the U.S. president and Congress that examines trade barriers affecting American businesses.
While Canada has introduced legislation aimed at preventing imports tied to forced labour, the report ruled that enforcement appears weak, allowing such goods to potentially enter the Canadian market.
