American officials are sounding the alarm, warning that Canada will live to regret Prime Minister Mark Carney’s preliminary trade deal with Beijing, which throws the Canadian market wide open to 49,000 Chinese-made electric vehicles.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Friday that Ottawa will regret opening its market to Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), as concerns grow in Washington that the deal could strengthen China’s foothold in North America.
