A top U.S. military commander dismissed the prospect of an American invasion of Canada as “absolutely and utterly preposterous,” comparing the scenario to launching an attack on Martians.
Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, was asked during a press conference in Victoria, B.C., on Wednesday whether he would obey an order from U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action against Canada.
“I find that scenario to be absolutely and utterly preposterous,” Paparo responded. “I follow the orders of the commander-in-chief, but that is a needlessly emotional question.”
“Would you ask me, please, also, what my attack plans are for the Martians?” he added.
The reporter pressed Paparo after accusing him of failing to answer the question.
“I said I follow the orders of the president,” Paparo responded before again invoking the Martians comparison.
