Well, hasn't this got out-of-control!! So now the unions run the province?? Is this a NDP tactic? What happened to unions negotiating? The govt asked for teachers to return to work and continue negotiating. Children get to go t school, teachers get to work and get a paycheck-seems like a win/win to me!!

Sounds like there are anterior motives here by the union leaders??!!

Totally political ! It’s all about ousting the UCP & place with NDP

The unions are all for control , this is not about the issue at hand! Gil McGowan has been waiting in the wings just for a reason to do something like this! I am sure. Nenshi is wringing his hands with glee!

As a teacher and a parent, I am so sick of these teachers unions using our kids as pawns in their political pandering! The unions have become political organizations and are not representing their members. This is about shutting down charter schools because those teachers aren't part of the ATA and trying to give the NDP power. It is not about our kids and teacher's work conditions.

Nice to hear from a teacher!!

Yes, I have heard that about the Charter schools. How much money does ATA need? They don't even have a strike fund!!

I would look into all their money each division spends on DEI and other bullshit. It's like the health system. It has gotten too heavy with paper pushers and "coaches". The answer isn't more money. As a tax payer, I'm tapped out. As a parent the system we have is failing kids and teachers, but money won't fix it. I'd like people to delve into the issue of why are so many kids struggling with their cognitive abilities and mental health... therein lies the solution

As a teacher you are one with a bigger voice than any of us. Your union needs to know this. I can't believe your union had no strike pay for you! How many years have you been paying into the union? Clearly, they have used those funds to become political. Inappropriate! I hope you have support of other teachers and bust this union. I also think teachers need to stand up to their administrators and get what you need from them to be safe and effective in the classroom. You have a tough job these days. No one is questioning that. Yes, classroom complexity is atrocious but it is you in that room that needs to stand for what is right. Wishing you the best.

You do have a choice who represents you. It's a lot of work to get everyone on board but there is a choice. It will be like those who organized the union in the first place. There will be hurdles. Find someone who has walked that road before.

Just curious; how many of these unionized workers are NOT public sector? 10%? 20%? Are steelworkers going on strike? Carpenters? I don't think so.

Time to get rid of public sector unions.

Yes, they have become political and they do not represent the worker any more. The unions in ON getting their members to protest for the FN or Palestine stances are despicable and horrible.

Really the union screaming Smith is a bully is a joke. Unions are prime example of a bullying. Their members are too afraid to speak up against them because they will be bullied.

Public unions need to be removed! Independent schools need to increase and this will stop the use of children as pawns in the NDP’s politics. The teachers were offered a great deal including discussing classroom size. The union is totally in the wrong!!!

Funding needs to follow the student, give parents some good choices.

"...new citizen-initiative petitions targeting independent-school funding."

And there it is. The attack on the very successful and rapidly expanding independent schools. The more teachers in the independent system, the less dues paid into the coffiers to support these unions and the less control they have in manipulating the students.

Interesting... the Freedom convoy, peaceful, never intending to overthrow the government was met with the Emergency Act, but the public unions intend to overthrow the UPC government for actions getting teachers back into classrooms and students back to learning. McGowan, by his own words, should be arrested for sedition.

If the NDP was in power and giving the same offers would the union be acting this way. I don't think so, this is all political. The majority of teachers are strong socialists and they are influencing our kids.

Schools should have a mandatory class in how our tax system works.

There may be a long taughted solution but curiously enough has never been implemented as far as I know by any government.

OPEN.. AUDITED.. AND SECRET BALLOTING.

OH... And Unions are no longer tax exempt and accountable to their membership and must seek approval for their decisions and how money is spent.

AND ONE MORE THING...

They go on strike... ALL including Union bosses and executive go on strike pay.

Tell me, did the union bosses still get their paycheques when the teachers were on strike?? Where does all those union dues go?? Should have paid the teachers strike pay. Many teachers and people from other unions are afraid to speak out against them. They are forced to pay dues and follow their rules or else. All about money and politics. They are the biggest bullies!!

I spent years with a big federal union. So corrupt. They are exactly like the fed govt. Take in dues money and think it is their own. Huge pay, unlimited expense accounts, $400.00 bottles of wine for dinner...I could go on. They are not there for the members! Reclassify all schools as Charter and get rid of the union. That should get rid of the lefty teachers too! Win/ win!

Danielle needs to do what Margaret Thatcher did and make secondary action illegal, that means no union not directly involved can go on strike, if they do the unions assets are seized. It stopped the leftist unions in the UK in their tracks back in the early 80's. When unions decide to meddle in politics it is time for them to expire.
