The University of Toronto has openly declared its intention not to hire white men for a new assistant professor job posting that’s only accepting applications from “women, genderminorities, Indigenous peoples or persons with disabilities.”

The data science assistant professor job posting states the restriction is “intended to address ‘systemic barriers’ and fulfill the university’s commitments under its Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.” The posting relies on the “special programs“ provisions of the Ontario Human Rights Code to limit eligibility.
