A new poll suggests Canadians are divided on whether the ongoing campaign by governments to erase historical figures and monuments undermines national understanding.
I was just going to comment that 2 in 5 seemed quite low. Then I saw that it was an Angus Reid poll and got it. It's been my experience that while in the past AR conducted legitimate, non-partisan polls that this is no longer the case. I've observed a definite leaning to the left over the last few years in their polls. I wouldn't give you a pinch of coon sh*t for any of their so-called data these days.
Out of 40+ million canadians, 2,508 people were selected, and yet people believe in the Polls. "1.5 per cent margin of error 19 times out of 20", so they say. 100% bullshit. Polls were created by facists, used by idiots, to manipulate the minds of morons.
The first thing an occupying force does, is they erase the history of the nation they have invaded; they rewrite History. They get rid of the monuments, they get rid of the Arts, they get rid of the Religion, they imprison the knowledgable and any decenters.
Instead of polling the illiterate, you were to poll 2,508 Historian's, what would they say?
two out of five means that all birth Canadians understand our past and want it honoured. The rest are immigrants that want to impose their past and beliefs on this country. they don't move here to assimilate. They move here to control! the Trudeau family Canadian legacy! Traitors???
Our history should never be over written or cancelled in an attempt to make it politically correct. History should be correct, honest and most important, factual. Great Countries and leaders learn from past mistakes. Any efforts made to distort or hide the truth of our North American History is an injustice to the true and sincere citizens of this country.
Accurate history shows it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. We all make mistakes and we learn from them. We don't pretend it never happened. What kind of an example is our Government setting for us? Rewriting History to suit their agenda. It's fake news and the Government should know better.
Covering it up does not erase history or the truth. It merely establishes a false narrative and deception. A country built on deception is weak and ineffectual.
OK, go ahead and label me racist or anti-immigration - I'm neither - but this needs to be said.
Such polls, regardless of who commissions them or who compiles the data are meaningless. I will not pay the slightest bit of attention to this one, and neither should anyone else. They have zero value. Zero value unless you list the national origin of those polled, going back for some period of time. Two generations would probably suffice (30-40 years).
People! On one end of the immigration spectrum, we have "New Canadians" out there who stage violent protests in our streets, burning our flag and shouting "Death to Canada!", while trying to promote Sharia Law for all. They bring their nation's wars and violence to Canada. I do not give one rat's *** about their opinion. On the other, milder and acceptable end of that immigration spectrum, (which I'm sure is the majority) we have millions of new Canadians who cannot yet possibly understand our history. How does someone who moved here within the past year or two even get to have an opinion on this?
What we're witnessing with this entire Cancel Culture issue is the result of a decade of childish, pie-in-the-sky governance and silliness from Mr Blackface/Dressup and his Cabinet of Morons.
All sanctified by the cBSc.
It is nauseating to see that it continues. We need to stop giving this type of nonsense oxygen (media coverage). It will eventually die of its own inanity and become what it is - the punch line in a very bad joke.
Yes surveys are to report to the the people that "paid" for the survey. Just My view as I do not know who paid for this one . But I would assume that some body did. Most companies today do not do very much from their "heart".
I usually don't respond to surveys as I find they often have built-in tendencies toward some results. If called, my first question is "Who pays for this survey?" and the answer I usually get is "I don't know". I follow with" Well I don't do surveys anymore; have a good day". My brain does not work the survey way.
Awe, but as you've seen those surveys are absorb as the truth to a majority of people. That's where the trouble lies with surveys. You know all those tv gawkers.
Not one of the three out of five would have had the intestinal fortitude to live in the past in this country. Let alone actually settle it and prosper. Not one would have lasted a day.
These sickening whining libtards feigning guilt to impress the rest of the soft useless sick society that Canadians have become.
There are civilization builders and civilization destroyers.
We are witnessing the latter and very few have the guts to stand up to these atrocities being committed .
That’s the shame!!!
Our predecessors did what they had to do and I’m proud of them!!
If the Canadian history that is threatened by these woke policies is the one taught in schools since the 1960s then we're not talking about much at all. Almost no Canadians have a real understanding of the colonial role Canada has played in the long battle between British imperialists in London and the American republicans. They know little, if anything, about the Papineau & Mackenzie rebellions of the 1830s nor of the significance of the Riel Métis rebellion. There's no knowledge of Canada's subversive role in the US Civil War on behalf of London. No understanding that Confederation was a strategic move to block an alliance between the US and Russia through Alaska. They don't know anything about the class tensions between settlers and the Family Compact & Chateau Clique and the democratic ideas that Baldwin & Lafontaine advanced. No idea about the economic alliance that Laurier was building with America & how London sabotaged that to keep Canada in a subservient role. And I've only just crossed into the early 20th Century. Canadians already know next to nothing. What they do know is British imperialist propaganda anyway. This poll is asking Canadians of we should reshape a piece of poo. No matter how you shape it, it'll still be poo. What we really need to do is give Canadians a history lesson from the people's perspective.
There is an anti-British, Francophone bias in your answer that skews the issue at hand, which is the erasure of history by Leftists -- but I appreciate that you know Canadian history, even if it is biased to one side in an old conflict between British and French. Right now, people of European descent have more in common than not: we are being erased incrementally by the globalists and third world in our own countries. Canada is being destroyed just as France has been, by incremental Islamization. Parts of Paris and Montreal are no longer French: they are African and Middle Eastern. That's the more immediate problem, not some past conflict that shaped Canada.
My French background may give my rant an apparent anti-British bias. You'll notice I skipped the entire French/English conflicts that preceded the 19th C. People are constantly making the mistake of seeing a nation as a single, unified entity. A nation is always a collection of competing interests. When one special interest group holds the reigns of power, the entire nation is held accountable for their actions by those of other nations when in fact only the group in power is guilty. The rest of the nation is only guilty by association. You'll notice I target British Imperialists, aka City of London banksters. I've nothing against the British people, their traditions of fairness, or their political institutions, ie Parliamentary democracy. It's the greedy goons that raped India & South Africa, poisoned the Chinese, waged war on Russia, and kept the settlers of their colonial empire in a state of feudal servitude that I have issues with. And I'm still only highlighting 19th C. crimes. I've got no issue with the people of Britain, other than their pathetic cuisine. 😉
There is another point of view regarding the British presence in India, which is that it greatly improved that continent, elevating it from wife-burning and thuggee criminality and primitivism to a modern bureaucratic and legal, and political system that the Indians still benefit from today. India has many languages and feuding groups that were brought into alignment through the Pax Britania and use of the English language for administration. Britain did them a great favour in that respect. See "The Case for Colonialism" by Bruce Gilley. https://www.nas.org/academic-questions/31/2/the_case_for_colonialism
Not all colonialism was good, but of them all, British colonialism was the best and did the most good worldwide. Its only real weakness is that it produces such polite, good-natured nations (the Commonwealth nations) that we are killing ourselves with kindness by letting the third world flood in and destroy us. Racial homogeneity is actually beneficial to maintain a unified and prosperous nation, eg, Poland and Japan do not let Muslim migrants in and have lower crime rates as a result. Diversity is definitely not a strength; it benefits only the greedy elites through divide and conquer. This is what happens when you lose Judeo-Christianity and patriotism, which serve as bulwarks against Islamization and Communism, and third-world barbarism. Quebec and France have this problem too now, allowing themselves to be corrupted by invaders in their big cities.
South Africa? The British are gone from it and the Boers on their way out and look at it now: falling to Communism and barbarism. They are in league with the Chinese Communists, and their cities are run by murderous criminals. The mistake the British made was to fight the Boers. All these examples of white men going to war with one another is sad in retrospect because Europeans had the greatest civilization in human history and threw it away through internal conflict and secularization.
The British Empire did a lot of good, as well as bad, though you only hear of the bad in schools today. Among their biggest failures, in my view, was to underestimate the viciousness of the Arabs in what is now Israel and disarm the Jews in 1947. They were also naive regarding the Afghans, whom they lost to in war, and whom they now allow to invade their country as migrants. The history of colonialism is not as simple as you make it out to be. And lest we forget, there was French colonialism as well in Africa and elsewhere, and I think we'd be remiss in condemning it wholesale. Check out Gilley's article, which of course engendered Leftist objections, but he's not wrong.
I read your Gilley article. He conveniently ignores the crimes of British imperialism prior to the 20th C and only speaks of the administrative and institutional benefits left behind after decolonization (post WWII) and how those previously colonized lands, left to their own devices since, have frittered away those institutional benefits. Firstly, he conveniently ignores the fact that economic imperialism of Britain and the US never ended after decolonization. The role that the IMF & the World Bank have played in continuing the siphoning of wealth from those nations, with the assistance of Western intelligence agencies in creating the proper politically unstabe environment that permits that kind of graft, goes completely unmentioned - as if it never existed. Lies of omission.
Secondly, Gilley also ignores the reason that colonial states were created at all. According to him, it's as if the British saw a need for law & order in a foreign land and magnanimously stepped in to fill the void. The reason they were there in the first place was to strip those nations of their resources. In order to do that for a century or more a governmental and bureaucratic structure had to be erected. There's no denying that British traditions of law & order were of benefit to all nations that adopted those traditions. But spreading a legacy of law & order was not the goal. Enrichment of British financiers & their investors was. So, in order for Britain's textile industry to flourish, the superior textile industry of India had to be destroyed. Their coton fields confiscated and converted to poppy growth so that opium could be flooded into China, destroying their society & creating a whole new market for London & Boston shipping. Indian textile workers, far superior to Britain's, had their hands cut off by the thousands. And where did Britain turn to for its coton? To the southern slave states of America. While they could brag to the world of having abolished slavery, they had no qualms about taking economic advantage of relationships with slave nations. While in India, the administrative apparatus turned a flexible caste system into a rigid prison of hereditary class for life, a legacy that lives on to this day.
These are just some of the crimes of the British in India. There are way too many in Africa to even get started on, let alone all of the other colonies they had globally.
Britain has many traditions that have been of great assistance to the advancement of humanity. But the cabal of imperialist banksters from the City of London, and their brethren on Wall St and in D.C. are a special breed of evil. They are not Britain and America. But they are in control of the governing institutions of those states, and most all of the others of the West, and they must be stopped.
You make a great point differentiating between the people of a nation and those who rule them. That difference has been there since time immemorial. Simply witness the past decade of Canada's governance to see this in action. Trudeau was fond of attempting to marry the two in his cringe worthy speeches.
And even though I'm of Scottish descent, I agree with you heartily on British cuisine😁
The Trudeau /Carney Liberals are a perfect example. They toil on behalf of the globalist Laurentian elites of eastern Canada, who feel a kinship with the elites of other Western nations and none with their fellow Canadians. Their mainstream media propaganda apparatus has only a minority of the population fooled, yet they have been making policy unchecked for all Canadians for a decade now and all Canadians must bear the humiliation.
The Brits, though, must collectively take responsibility for their poor cuisine, Gordon Ramsey excepted.
Ha ha ha. Absolutely right on both counts. I still remember (from 50 years ago) my first ever meal in England. A pub in Cardiff Wales, actually. Beef and kidney pie which is just about as horrible as it sounds.
I've been saying for a loooong time now why. The answer is that the lieberals are out to destroy Canada to form a new colony under the UN flag. It's been obvious for several years now. People said that turdope was dumb, but no he was not dumb, he new full well what was happening. He was just playing out the time until all things got in line with the program. Con man is there to finish the job. And it will be done before anyone will knows it.
No one consulted with me about this survey. It is only common sense that cancelling any history is a mistake... repeating mistakes of the past always happens when history is ignored, forgotten, or disregarded. Obviously the N.D.P. are idiots, and the Liberals are insane with their 'idiotology.' Canada is circling the toilet bowl, ready to go down the proverbial sewer pipe into the cesspool of Libertines, trannies, pedophiles, drug addicts, commies, gender-confused, fake feminists, Trudeau worshippers, W.E.F. supporters, "global warming hysterics and "vaccine" induced Aids patients. That is what happens when a nation fails to study and learn from history.
Don't believe this woke paid for Angus Reid poll, David! It's meant to discourage the Canadians that still have the ability of independent thinking; those who received an education which included history; before "education" became "indoctrination". I believe that there are many more Canadians who understand the great value of our national history than this "poll" would suggest.
Just back from Vancouver and Oliver area. There is a lot of mindless support for C B C propaganda. Alberta needs to separate. The Federal govt is supporting the producing armour piercing vests and technology - so the red hats Feds are training in military can arrest dissidents. Mark Carneys adherence to his WEF masters plans is going ahead nicely and the rest of Canada is sadly clueless.
I for one am willing to accept that our prior leaders were well intentioned and should be given credit for attempting to better the lives of all Citizens who occupied the lands known as Upper and Lower Canada and then the Dominion of Canada. Leave the statues and infrastructure designations in place and hopefully future generations will honour those statues and designations we in our current population will put in place.
Cancel nothing & nobody. We live & learn, move forward & try to do better by voting in moral leaders, or not. Please, please, PLEASE, stop trying to visit my measley funds, or those of future family members, to recompense issues, perceived wrongs, from before my parents were even born 90 + years ago.

It's too bad there isn't a stronger word than traitor. It hardly seems enough. Canada had it all. Under Trudeau II they threw it all away.
Soon you see statues of Allah every 10 blocks. And you will be happy.

I suspect the numbers would be significantly different if the question was posed to Canadians rising in the country for 10 or more years

Why do our politicians allow in people who hate Canada?
They claim that they want a better life but do everything to destroy Canada and turn it into the shithole they left.
