According to police, the online setup was allegedly carried out by two suspects, a 35-year-old man, Harwinder Singh, and a 23-year-old woman, Riya Riya, both from Brampton.
The two were arrested and charged on August 12 and charged with two counts of forcible confinement, two counts of extortion, and one count of robbery, in connection with the incident which took place in July.
Singh, the male suspect, was additionally charged with uttering threats.
