Tucker Carlson: “I would feel much freer and safer living in China than in Canada”

U.S. conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has drawn renewed international attention to Canada’s assisted suicide regime, saying he would feel “much freer and safer living in China than in Canada,” during a recent episode of his online program featuring Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh.
The comments came amid a broader discussion of Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program, which allows eligible Canadians to receive state-facilitated assisted suicide. Carlson said the program represents a profound moral failure and accused the Canadian government of widespread abuses.
“The government is murdering tens of thousands of its citizens every year,” Carlson said during the episode, adding that the issue is rarely discussed outside Canada. “It’s like the darkest thing,” he said, arguing that the scale of the program and its expansion make the country less free than authoritarian states.
According to Health Canada, 16,499 people died through MAiD in 2024 alone.
Carlson also claimed that Canada’s policies are so extreme that even discussing them can sound implausible to foreign audiences.
Walsh echoed that point, saying, “It’s so dark and so depraved that when you talk about it, people (Americans) think you’re exaggerating or making it up.”
Carlson said he rarely raises the issue publicly because of disbelief from viewers.
“I almost don’t talk about it very often because I don’t think anyone believes it,” he said, adding that he has personal affection for Canada but finds the country’s policies alarming.
The remarks come as Canada continues to face domestic scrutiny over the scope of its assisted suicide regime. MAiD was initially introduced as a limited program for those with grievous and irremediable physical conditions, but has since expanded.
Debate has intensified ahead of a planned 2027 expansion that would allow mental illness to be used as the sole underlying condition for eligibility criterion for MAiD. That proposal has drawn criticism from medical professionals, disability advocates and suicide-prevention groups.
Earlier this month, euthanasia-prevention advocates urged Parliament to support Conservative MP Tamara Jansen’s Bill C-218, which would bar mental illness from being used as the sole criterion for MAiD. The advocates argued that mental illness cannot be considered irremediable and warned that vulnerable Canadians could be put at risk.
Health Canada’s most recent annual report shows that nearly 700 people who were approved for MAiD in 2024 later withdrew their request, many after finding alternative treatments or support.
In July, former True North Journalist and current Conservative MP Andrew Lawton shared his personal story in relation to why he fights to stop the expansion of Canada’s assisted suicide laws.
Earlier this year, Lawton launched the “I Got Better” campaign to oppose the 2027 expansion of MAID to people suffering solely from mental illness.
In a deeply personal video address, Andrew revealed that he nearly took his own life during a dark period of depression, and says if today’s laws had been in place then, he wouldn’t be here.

When Carney was running to be elected did some homework on him.
Did not take too long even with Google trying to make him look brilliant.
Realized what he was all about much of which was in his own words and writings.
Didn't think voters would fall for it after ten years of Lieberals lead by a jerk with a weird costume and sock fetish.
I was wrong.
When Canada's "Elbows Up" crowd were fooled into voting for another go-round of a Party lead by a WEF Principle, UN Consulting, Environment, self proclaimed Elite, Globalist, and "Proud European".
One who would not disclose his holdings, was known to be a multi, multi millionaire, Brookfield Principle (one who moved their head office from Canada to the USA) and who has hidden his money in various off-shore locations to avoid disclosure and taxation...
It was all out there.
Shortly thereafter... Left Canada and I doubt I will be returning except to visit a few good friends who sadly appear to have no options but to stay trapped there.
Now I see there is a combination of bills, some already passed, some likely soon to be, that certainly will turn Canada into a Liberal controlled police state including power to remove people entirely from the Internet by the brain dead and incompetent things who call themselves Cabinet Ministers. All without Judicial or Parliamentary oversight.
... BUT YET ....
The Liberals have hidden their real intent in warm fuzzy language and said don't worry we have no intention of doing what they are being accused of attempting to do.
... The Problem ...
Their Liberals..
Their Lips are moving.
You know the rest.
...... BTW ........
Not a huge fan of Carlson these days but he absolutely has a point.
Still though...
NO TO CHINA ...
PERIOD... END... FULL STOP
It is easier to understand the China government's rules. You don't criticize the country or leader. But Canada, it's difficult to know what you can't say, who you'll get in trouble from, what logic they're using. It relates to this CS Lewis quote (" It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies."):
