U.S. President Donald Trump issued a fiery ultimatum on Tuesday, demanding immediate negotiations with Canada and threatening to halt an Ottawa-owned bridge’s completion. His grievances include Canadian tariffs on U.S. agriculture, Canada’s new deal with China and a ban on American alcohol.
In a post to Truth Social, Trump shared an image of the estimated $5.7 billion Gordie Howe International Bridge, which connects Windsor, Ont., to Detroit, Mich. The bridge is financed almost entirely by the Canadian taxpayer. Construction began in 2018 and, after delays, was expected to open in early 2026.
