U.S. President Donald Trump is dangling the revival of the Keystone XL pipeline as Canada and the United States negotiate the final details of a trade agreement that could reshape cross-border commerce.

Trump announced a three-day pause on threatened 50 per cent tariffs Tuesday, saying a Canada-U.S. deal was taking shape while floating the revival of Keystone XL as part of the negotiations.

“The great Keystone XL Pipeline, long ago killed by Sleepy Joe Biden, may be awoken from the grave!” Trump wrote on social media.

He accompanied the announcement with an AI-generated image depicting himself pulling a pipeline out of a grave marked “BURIED BY BIDEN.”

Prime Minister Mark Carney made no mention of Keystone XL in his response, saying only that “substantial progress has been made” while acknowledging “important work” remains.
