While demanding that a recently announced U.S.-Canada trade deal remove all tariffs placed on Canada, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre stood by his party’s policy to ensure that supply management stays off the bargaining table.

During a press conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on Thursday, where Poilievre spoke about a recently announced trade deal between the U.S. and Canada, demanding it be better than before Trump, as Prime Minister Mark Carney promised, Poilievre addressed his party’s support for supply management.

The news comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that planned 50 percent tariffs on Canada have been paused for three days “based on the fact” that Canada and the U.S. have come to a deal.

On Thursday, Trump told reporters that the deal includes total relief for American farmers from long-standing tariffs.
