U.S. President Donald Trump is praising an “extremely productive” call with Liberal Leader Mark Carney and said he looks forward to working with Carney after the election.

Trump’s comments come despite Carney’s recent declaration that the era of a close U.S.-Canada relationship was over.
Trump took to social media to recap the Friday morning call with Carney.
“I just finished speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday. “It was an extremely productive call; we agree on many things.”
Trump indicated that the two had discussed another meeting after the election, signalling that he’s betting on a Liberal government.
“(We) will be meeting immediately after Canada’s upcoming Election to work on elements of politics, business, and all other factors, that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada,” he said.
Just a day prior, Carney was in Ottawa responding to Trump’s latest round of tariffs – a 25 per cent tariff on imported vehicles from every nation. He declared an end to the historic relationship between the U.S. and Canada.
“The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperations, is over,” Carney said Thursday. “What exactly the United States does next is unclear, but what is clear is that we as Canadians have agency, we have power. We are masters in our own home.”
He said Canadians will have to “dramatically reduce our reliance on the United States.”
This comes just a week after Trump said he’d rather have to deal with a Liberal government in Canada than a Conservative one because it would be “easier.”
In the same interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, he took shots at Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, saying he’s “stupidly no friend of mine.” Trump blasted Poilievre again a month prior, saying, “he’s not a MAGA guy. He’s not a Trump guy.”
Carney has previously said he and Trump would get along as they’ve met in elite circles before and got along well.
This is sneaky Carney at it again. He and Trump claim a productive call with no specifics released. It’s a scam. Release a transcript or recording of the call so Canadians can determine what was said by a candidate who has no authority to be speaking on our behalf.
A phone call and a discussion. Sounds like diplomacy. Exactly what Premier Smith has been trying to do for a few months now and has she ever suffered for it from the likes of the snake Carney, Jughead Singh, and countless others. Thankfully she keeps pressing on undeterred and is once again proven right.
Oh and " elbows up" for the Carney groupies out there.
