U.S. President Donald Trump has granted Canada three additional days on the looming 50 per cent tariffs he threatened to impose on a variety of other exports, “based on the fact that Canada and the U.S.A., subject to the finalization of documents, have a DEAL!” he wrote in a social media post.
The $28 billion in new tariffs is poised to affect exports such as electronics, plywood, furniture, housewares, footwear and other consumer goods. However, Trump alluded to the revival of the Keystone XL pipeline as one of the bargaining chips at play to stave off the additional levies.
