Interesting discussion in today's show regarding Canada/U.S. relations. For one thing it seems that at least in the media the NDP/Liberal alliance is having some success in making the musings of the U.S. President the focus of current electoral politics in Canada. As has been noted elsewhere, where have these Instant Patriots booing Americans from the safety of a crowded hockey rink been over the last several years when statues of Canada's founders have been torn down and our National Flag was flown at half mast for six months? All this meaningless Neanderthal chest thumping triggered by the probing, bemused feelers of an experienced negotiator only diminishes Canada and makes us look like unmoored, caterwauling amateurs. Instead, Canadians need to look at what policies have brought us to this vulnerable, dependent state and set about urgently to elect leaders who will correct our downward spiral and make Canada once again the best place in the world to invest and prosper. If we don't change course quickly then some of the troubling scenarios outlined by David Haskell may well come about, such as a determined, professionally organized rise in Western separatism encouraged by our neighbours to the south or an American program to grant a form of refugee status to "freedom-loving" Canadians wishing to escape the yoke of high taxation, regulatory suffocation and religious persecution. And the most disturbing aspect of all this? The NDP/Liberal Alliance does not seem to care a whit and instead wants to cling to power by recklessly baiting the American bear at no matter what cost to the country.
You have an excellent view as to what's going on in this busted country. I strongly believe in western seperatism. As I very sure that quebec will never change to be real citizens. And keep gouging the west. That is enough reason right there to seperate. And again, I'm all for that.
This is a great interview and highlights how bad our "constitution" is and gives some realities about joining the US. Also, regarding JFT's high speed rail from Toronto to Montreal, it's a joke! He says $4B will be the cost. If you believe that, you might actually be dumb enough to vote Lib. Just look at the cost of the Trans Mountain pipeline over $30B... WAY over budget! OMG- LOL... Really, you think they can do this for even close to that number? How stupid do the Libs think we are? Just look at the cost of building "Skytrain" a few miles in Vancouver.
The $4B is the money for the design of this dream and not the construction of the line.
I am certain that this line will never be built. Someone should have asked Trudeau why does it take 6 years to design a high speed rail line. This announcement is to buy votes with Trudeau's friends.
There are lots of good reasons that we Albertans would benefit from being a part of US. If they promised to get rid of the woke perversion of our education system in Alberta... I would likely support it. I am concerned for my grandkids entering the public education system.
Candice all this discussion is forgetting two important groups. First are the First Nations; do they want to be part of a country that tried and continue to try wipe them out and USA also had the equivalent of the residential school system. Second group are those whose roots go back prior to Confederation and those that fought against the American Revolutionary War: The peoples of New France and Arcadia,( who were displaced because Bostonians wanted their land), the Empire Loyalist who were free men/women, black people both free and slave and Indigenous people. They have a stake in this whole debate. If you look closely you may even find these people settled in Alberta way back when!

Sounds like a way to funnel taxpayer money to his liberal friends, maybe including himself in the business. Guaranteed it will go way over budget.

Bruce Pardy is an excellent academic still in Canada.
I am one of those hard core conservatives who got out. I feel so much freedom in the US
because :we the people" definitely have the voice right now. This is such a great discussion and I hope JUNO continues in these conversations.
