Over the weekend, Justin Trudeau told a Finnish audience that successful immigration relies on “shared values” and integration, rather than ancestry. He went on to admit that Canada had made mistakes on immigration that needed adjustment.
The comments are surprising from a leader who long defended his government’s immigration approach, even as public concern over housing, infrastructure, and population growth intensified.
Former MP Kevin Vuong says those same concerns were repeatedly raised in Ottawa, but when confronted, Trudeau "implied we were racist."
