Toronto tops list as Canada’s most rat-infested city in 2025

Toronto has once again been ranked the “rattiest” city in Canada, according to an annual report from pest-control company Orkin Canada.
The company’s latest rankings, released Tuesday, are based on the number of residential and commercial rodent treatments performed nationwide between Aug. 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025. Toronto maintained its first-place position from previous years, reflecting what Orkin described as rising rodent pressures in major urban centres.
Several other Ontario cities, including Mississauga and Ottawa, also made the top tier, underscoring what Orkin says is a broader trend of elevated rodent activity across the province.
Orkin said the rankings offer a snapshot of where infestations are increasing and how cities compare in terms of service call volumes. The company noted that regions across Canada continue to see growing rodent populations and urged homeowners and businesses to take preventative steps.
Recommended measures include trimming trees and shrubs away from buildings, eliminating standing water, sealing gaps or cracks that could serve as entry points, and maintaining clean indoor and outdoor spaces.
Toronto was named Canada’s “rattiest” city for 2025. The rest of the top-ten list is: Victoria, Vancouver, and Burnaby. Richmond and Mississauga are tied for fifth place. Rounding out the list are Kelowna (sixth), Ottawa (seventh), Scarborough (eighth), and Moncton (ninth).
Orkin said the list reflects both residential and commercial treatments and should be viewed as an indicator of where rodent pressures are most concentrated.
