The Toronto Star is facing backlash for publishing a Father’s Day column that many say downplays the importance of dads and hijacks a day meant to honour fatherhood.
The June 15 opinion piece, titled “On Father’s Day, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of mothers,” was written by former CBC News executive producer Mark Bulgutch. It argues that “on Father’s Day, when all the attention falls on perhaps the least important character in the delivery room,” men should use the occasion to thank the women who made them fathers.
