I am not suggesting that meaningful reconciliation is not valid, worthwhile and deserved. I am simply saying, there is no case for Canada to roll over and give everything to First Nations.
It just doesn’t make sense. There are so many overlapping land claims that it would take hundreds of years to even come to agreement to satisfy all Indigenous in Canada.
This opportunity existed at the time we put the Indian Act in place. Instead we built a welfare state instead. To make any meaningful land claim settlements means self determination and the reversal of the welfare state we built.
It was my general understanding that Native Americans believed that NO ONE owns the land. The land belongs to Mother Earth. A beautiful belief. So what happened? The WEF happened.
