A 49-year-old man working in Toronto as a food delivery driver has been charged in connection with a sexual assault reported earlier this month in the city’s east end.
Toronto police say officers responded to a call for a sexual assault on Wednesday, October 15, in the area of Pape Avenue and Danforth Avenue.
Investigators allege a victim had placed a food delivery order and met the driver in the lobby of a residential building to collect it.
Police say the supposed delivery driver, identified as Anwar Miah, then sexually assaulted the victim.
Miah has been charged with one count of sexual assault.
He appeared in court on Wednesday at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Finch Avenue West.
The accusations against Miah, while still untested and unproven in court, fits within a wider pattern of sexual assault allegations and food delivery drivers in Canada.
Earlier this year, the Hamilton Police Service investigated a case where 29-year-old Karanvir Singh, also working as a delivery driver, allegedly entered a victim’s apartment “under the guise of using the restroom” and then sexually assaulted her. He was charged in April 2025, and police said there may be other victims.
In Kelowna, a 51-year-old Syrian citizen living in British Columbia, Hamid Al Dergham, who was also working as a food-delivery driver, was found guilty of sexual assault after grabbing a woman’s crotch and breasts following a delivery. In March 2023, a jury found him guilty, and in November, he was sentenced to a conditional sentence and probation.
Police have released a photo of the accused in the most recent Toronto case, citing concerns that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact police at 416-808-5500 or to leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com.
In a statement accompanying the charge, Toronto police noted and reminded those living in Toronto that “a sexual assault is any form of unwanted sexual contact. It includes, but is not limited to, kissing, grabbing, oral sex and penetration.”
