Conservatives are demanding Prime Minister Mark Carney shut down revived military talks with China, accusing him of rebuilding ties with a regime he previously called Canada’s “biggest security threat.”
Conservative defence critic James Bezan and foreign affairs critic Eric Duncan called on Carney Wednesday to end the renewed Canada-China Defence Coordination Dialogue, which resumed Sept. 4 after an eight-year hiatus.
“Like millions of Canadians, we agreed with your clear-headed statement last year that China was ‘the biggest security threat’ to our country,” the MPs wrote.
“This made it all the more disappointing when you changed your position after the election, pursuing instead a ‘strategic partnership’ with Beijing for a ‘New World Order.’”
