The worst reactions to Charlie Kirk’s assassination
While many were calling for unity, a disturbing number of academics, activists, and even educators openly mocked or celebrated Kirk's death online.
Charlie Kirk’s assassination on Tuesday was met with grief, outrage, and swift condemnations from leaders around the world.
But in Canada, while some were calling for unity, a disturbing number of academics, activists, and even educators openly mocked or celebrated his death online.
Comments ranging from mocking Kirk’s family to downplaying his death circulated widely on social media.
Here are some of the worst reactions.

TikToker Rachel Gilmore complains about Kirk’s supporters
Canadian TikToker Rachel Gilmore (@atRachelGilmore) responded to Kirk’s assassination not with condolences but with speculation that supporters of Kirk might retaliate violently.
“Terrified to think of how far-right fans of Kirk, aching for more violence, could very well turn this into an even more radicalizing moment, will they now believe their fears have been proven right and feel they have a right to “retaliate,” regardless of who actually was behind the initial shooting?”
Former Conservative leader Andrew Scheer responded to Gilmore’s tweet, writing, “Imagine how twisted she has to be that this is her first thought after a man was shot in the neck for expressing his views, so much hate in her.”
Gilmore then accused Scheer of trying to get her killed: “Is Andrew Scheer trying to get me f*cking killed???”
Gilmore’s X account has since been locked down to ‘protected.’
Calling Kirk “a wet, rectal stain on society”
Hill Times contributor Erica Ifill (@wickdchiq) posted one of the most vulgar responses, dismissing condolences for Kirk and insulting his legacy.
“This guy was a wet, rectal stain on society, what performative hogwash.”
“Why are politicians giving Charlie Kirk fanfare and condolences. Who gives a shit? Why are we commemorating a guy who’s the big reason we are seeing the rise in facism? This guy was a wet, rectal stain on society, what performative hogwash,” wrote Ifill.
Referring to Kirk as a “white supremacist”
Ontario school teacher Dr. Allison Wiltz (@queenie4rmnola) commented on the killing by falsely labelling Kirk a “white supremacist.” Her post was later reposted by fellow Ontario educator Jamie Mitchell.
“A white supremacist was shot today,” wrote Wiltz.
University of Toronto professor says “shooting is too good”
In a thread discussing the video of Charlie’s shooting, University of Toronto professor of political science and religion Ruth Marshall (@wtfis2bdone) responded to a commenter saying “shooting is too good,” followed by expletives.
“Shooting is honestly too good for so many of you fascist c*nts,” posted Marshall.
Like Gilmore’s, Marshall’s X account has since been changed to ‘protected.’
Flippant remarks about the Epstein files
On the left-wing social media website Bluesky, account @brittlestar.com, who gained fame during the pandemic, brushed off the murder with a flippant remark.
“Anyway…. Epstein Files,” wrote @brittlestar.com.
“Thoughts and prayers” for others, not Kirk’s family
Canadian blogger and activist Nora Loreto (@nolore.bsky.social) responded to the assassination not with condolences for Kirk’s family, but by reframing it as a warning about harassment.
“Thoughts and prayers for every woman that the far right shitheads in this country decide to use Kirk’s murder to harass into harm.” @nolore.bsky.social
Comparing it to Gaza
The activist account ‘Revolutionary Blackout’ (@SocialistMMA) justified the murder by drawing parallels to the Israel–Gaza conflict, suggesting without basis Kirk supported similar violence abroad.
“This happened everyday in Gaza and Charlie cheered for it” @SocialistMMA Revolutionary Blackout.
Mocked calls to end political violence
Community organizer Joy Henderson (@Joyhenderson78), who has been featured by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), mocked warnings against celebrating political violence.
In response to a tweet by @MadeInCanada denouncing people encouraging political violence, Henderson responded with a post saying she was “happy to be the problem.”
Henderson followed with a post, saying: “Wow, a lot of…. (White male tears)”
Blaming “white people”
The ‘Equity Network downplayed Kirk’s murder and instead blamed white Canadians for systemic violence.
“Positioning this as a new or unprecedented far right white supremacist threat disregards the longstanding reality that Black, Indigenous, and Brown communities have always been targets of racialized violence…”
“To overlook this history and the present diminishes the enduring trauma & harm inflicted on racialized communities everyday, white people need to clean up their mess, instead of hand wringing and claiming shock.”
Warnings about a so-called “fascist response”
Devon Cassidy, a Victoria social worker, took the opportunity to comment on Kirk’s death in a video by warning about a so-called “fascist response.”

These comments are proof positive that evil demonic activity exists and is rampant in Canada. The liberals have successfully created a breeding ground for evil. Charlie Kirk acted in love. He encouraged discussion between different opinions. Unfortunately demons react defiantly and with violence when they can't intelligently debate truth.
Just when you think the left cannot get any more depraved they prove us wrong. What I don't understand -- as someone who is not on social media -- is why people think they have to comment on absolutely everything. What happened to, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Obviously these lefty loons are not fans of Charlie Kirk, but would it be possible for them to just shut the f*ck up and say nothing at all??? They have been so emboldened to express hate and intolerance that they can't seem to help themselves.
