The number of Canadians on EI increased by 16 per cent in November

The number of Canadians on Employment Insurance (EI) is soaring, with a 1.6 per cent jump in November to a total of 566,000 recipients, according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada.

The number of Canadians on Employment Insurance (EI) is soaring, with a 1.6 per cent jump in November to a total of 566,000 recipients, according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada.

“After trending up for the first half of the year—increasing 66,000 (+13.5 per cent) from January to July—the number of beneficiaries had been little changed in August, September and October,” wrote the agency on Thursday.
